Please check the items below to make sure your network setup is compatible with Cocoon Cam.
- 1.5 Mbps WiFi Upload/Download Speed
We recommend that Cocoon Cam be placed in an area that receives a good WiFi signal that allows for at least 1.5 Mbps upload/download speeds. Access must be via Cable, DSL or Fiber (Satellite and Dial-up connections are generally not supported). Specifically, you will need a connection with less than 100ms ping time. Parents can test their connection by using an online tool such as: https://www.meter.net/ping-test/
- 2.4 GHz Band
Cocoon Cam requires a 2.4Ghz, 802.11b secured (password protected) access point. Dual-band access points (such as 802.11g/n) are not supported. If a router with dual-band support is being used, it is necessary to create a 802.11b-only access point specifically for Cocoon Cam.
- Strong Signal Strength
Cocoon Cam requires a strong WiFi signal and also requires that other nearby WiFi points be weaker than the WiFi point your Cocoon Cam is connected to. *Note: Users can check this on their phone by looking at the available WiFi points and ensuring that their WiFi network has max bars when closest to where the Cocoon Cam will be mounted.
- Security Settings
Cocoon Cam requires WiFi security to be WPA or WPA2. *Note: Users can check this by using their phone to examine the WiFi point they plan to connect the Cocoon Cam to and verifying the security setting.
*Restrictions include (Cocoon Cam cannot provide support for the following):
- Dual-band (simultaneous 2.4GHz/5GHz) wifi access points. Dual band router owners will need to create a separate, 2.4GHz-only access point for Cocoon Cam.
- WiFi extenders
- Mesh networks (Orbi, Google Wifi, others)
- Mobile hotspots
- Satellite internet
- Duplicate SSIDs
