Vision Mode & Real-time Breathing Rate
- Motion Detection
During sleep, your baby is always in motion. Sometimes these motions are large and easy to see (wiggling, rolling around, arm waving). Sometimes these motions are small and harder to see with your naked eye (finger twitches, eye movements).
Sometimes these motions are so tiny they aren’t easily visible to the human eye, such as the minute rise and fall of your baby’s chest-- with each breath inhale and exhale. Cocoon Cam monitors motion at the individual pixel level of the camera, and is capable of detecting even this tiny chest-rise-and-fall motion from your baby.
Introduce Vision Mode! A tool which shows you exactly where Cocoon Cam detects motion, whether it’s large motion or the intensity level.
- Breathing rate detection
When your baby is very still, and the only motion comes from the chest rising and falling with each breath, we calculate your baby’s breathing rate by counting how often this rise-fall motion happens. In the app, we display the last calculated breathing rate, along with the last time this rate was computed.
The baby needs to be restful for a complete 15 seconds before the system is able capture the respiration rate.
- Reduced Internet Bandwidth Usage
Previous versions of CocoonCam needed up to 500GB/month to actively monitor your baby’s movements and respiration rate.
This upgrade reduces the Internet bandwidth used to at most 150GB/month for a single camera and a single viewer, even if that camera is viewed continuously in HD (720p) for the entire month. If you invite people to view your camera, each invitee will use an additional 30GB/month. Cocoon Cam supports a maximum of six invitees.
- Improved Video & Audio
In prior versions of Cocoon Cam, some users experienced significant “lag” when viewing video/audio from their camera...if you waved your hand in front of the camera, then it would take some time before you would see that motion on the app.
This upgrade decreases this “lag” to at most 5 seconds.
We have also improved the app to support dynamic transitions between network connectivity modes. For example, if you are at home viewing the video on your home WiFi, and then walk outside so that your phone switches to 4G cellular data, the video and audio streams will automatically reconnect over 4G to give you a nearly seamless experience.
- Improved Security
Connected (IP) camera security is a huge concern in today’s cyber-threat-filled world. To ensure the highest security for our customers, we have re-designed our entire video/audio streaming pipeline to use the same kind of encryption that keeps you safe when browsing secure websites (such as banking sites).
Data is encrypted from the moment it leaves your camera all the way to our secure AI processing systems in the cloud. The entire structure that connects the Cocoon Cam app to your Cocoon Cam camera is encrypted with the same level of security.
- Improved Cry Detection
Many users noted that previous versions of Cocoon Cam had difficulty with cry detection in the presence of noise machines and other background sounds. This led to some users experiencing “false cry” alerts.
With this update we have retrained our AI algorithms to detect crying even in the presence of common noise machine sounds such as white-noise, water sounds, rain sounds, etc. Additionally, we utilize sensor fusion to further reduce false cry alerts by only alerting when your little one is in the crib.
